Race for Oceans at Port Harcourt Tourist Beach
Race for Oceans Port Harcourt, Nigeria: Raising global awareness about ocean plastic!
Champions from Nigeria have been selected to be part of a global movement to organize worldwide events addressing plastic pollution in the oceans.
Joining champions from over forty countries across six continents, Nigeria’s Race for Oceans champions, Emmanuella Osabuohien, Paul Arhamerene, and Anthony Oyakhilome Justice, are organizing a fun, inclusive, educational, and active event that will seek to mobilize the community to engage in Sustainable Development Goal 14: Life Below Water!
The event took place at Port Harcourt Tourist Beach in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and started at 9:00 AM GMT+1 on the 23rd of October 2021 had 35+ participants from five different youth organizations. Everyone who is interested in or wants to learn more about how to make our oceans and water bodies clean and safe was welcomed at the event. During the one-day event we had;
- Knowledge Sharing space
- Clean-up exercise
- Beach sports activities
We had volunteers from
- AIESEC in Port Harcourt
- Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Network Rivers state Hub
- Impact Leaders Club
- Student Energy University of Port Harcourt chapter, and our recycling partner

“It is imperative that we join hands to achieve the goal for the SDG by 2030, and collaborative spaces like this which improve the inclusivity and fun nature of contributing to our ocean and water bodies is a good step in the right direction.”
